How will we supply broadband?Because our service is delivered by wireless radio, the maximum speeds available may vary from location to location, depending on signal strength and local geography. Although we will endeavour to provide you with the fastest service possible, unlike other Internet Service Providers (ISPs), we only charge for the connection speeds you choose from the available capacity in your area. We call this Total Bandwidth Pricing and we are sure you will agree this is a much fairer, more open basis on which to deliver a broadband service. With us you select the upload and download ‘burst’ speeds you would like to use to connect to the internet. We charge for the total bandwidth chosen – this way, you only pay for the service you receive. Our three main service options are: |

Burst SpeedThe maximum speed at which you can send or receive data is called the Burst Speed. If at any time our network, or the internet itself is experiencing heavy data exchange (through intense web or email traffic for example), then the network speeds may be temporarily reduced. Because of this, we carefully manage the way our network is used to make sure it is fully optimised at all times and we offer three connection options, designed to meet the needs of everyone from the average home user to a large business. Selecting higher ‘burst’ speeds will give you access to faster broadband. The maximum speed offered is subject to the capacity of the network in your area. We will not sell you a higher burst speed rate than the network in your area can deliver. Download & Upload SpeedWhen you browse the internet, send emails or make internet phone calls you are doing two things. You are Downloading information (data) to your computer and you are Uploading data to the internet. Viewing a web page for example starts with a request by you to the internet (an upload) to view the page you would like, and then you will receive the page as a download to your computer. Your computer receives the information about this page in small “packets of data”. All the time your computer is being asked “did you receive that last packet of information” and the next packet is not sent until your computer has confirmed it has been received. So as you can see, there is the constant need to upload and download data. On the whole, if you are an average internet user, you will download about 4 times more than you upload. So when choosing the service you would like you would probably want a service that offers a higher download speed than upload. The most common option is either 4Mb Download and 1Mb Upload or 8Mb download with 2Mb upload. You will see these two options in the price tariff below. If you are a home office worker who connects to an office VPN, or if you send lots of large emails, or make a lot of internet calls using video (from services such as skype or msn) then you would probably want a service that offers higher Upload rates, such as either 4Mb Download and 4Mb upload or 8Mb Download and 8Mb Upload. If you are beginning to wonder what this paragraph is talking about… then it’s probably a safe assumption to say you would be OK with the average user option, as people who need this kind of faster service, generally know their requirements already.
